The materials that I have listed below are the basic materials that I utilize when I teach this unit. All worksheets, tests, answer keys, assignments, and assessments are included in this site and may be reproduced. Natually, you will do much brainstorming while reading this novel and will want to add activities of your own. At the conclusion of this unit, I like for my student to view the accompanying movie, Holes, as they enjoy seeing the novel come to life and like to compare the movie to the actual novel.

- Recipe for Spiced Peaches. Kissin' Kate Barlow was famous for her spiced peaches. One hundred years after the demise of Kate, two boys survived the rigors of the desert by finding and eating some of her peaches. This activity will provide a hands-on, kinesthetic, and sensory learning experience for the students as they prepare and then taste the spiced peaches.
- Blackboard/Whiteboard, chalk, erasable markers.
- DVD copy of "Holes", produced by Walt Disney Pictures. Because of copyright laws, this would have to be purchased for educational use. The movie is well done and adhers closely to the novel. My students enjoy seeing the words come to life on the screen.
