What is it?

The Margate REBEL 2 service club is 7 years old.  Throughout the year, our students participate in many activities to encourage resistance to drugs, alcohol, tobacco and to support those who are in need.

Our students have joined the High School program to continue the effort to keep themselves and their friends tobacco free.  Our theme,“Not for Sale” is strong.  We are not going to allow the Tobacco companies to convince us that it is the popular habit that young people need to “fit in” and look “cool”.

Our efforts continue as we take part in for activities for the “Great American Smoke –Out” each year in November. REBEL 2 members assist every student to sign the Anti-Tobacco Pledge. The REBEL 2 members will return to Union Avenue and the William A. Ross School again this year, to teach an age appropriate lesson to the students about the ill effects of tobacco.

In December the students raise money to 'Build A Bear' to give to children coping with cancer.

In the spring, members will once again attend the NJ REBEL 2 Summit which is held in New Brunswick.  These participants meet other middle school members throughout the state. They join their efforts to counter the heavy marketing done by the Tobacco Companies.

REBEL 2 members take an active role in our “Shoot for the Stars” which is held annually each spring.  Admittance to this fun-filled night requires only the student’s signature on the Anti-tobacco/drug pledge.

To celebrate our efforts, we have parties throughout the year.  REBEL 2 is a club with an “open door” policy.  Students can always join.  You will soon see many of our members wearing our shirts and sweatshirts.  We meet twice a month on Thursdays at 7:45 or 8:00 am.  Hope to see you there!

Shoot For The Stars 2008!

On Thursday, March 6th, the Margate/ Longport Alliance and REBEL 2 (Reaching Everyone by Exposing Lies) will sponsor the sixth annual “Shoot for the Stars.” The time is 6:30-8:30 pm. This year we are excited to invite the 6-8th graders from Blessed Sacrament School to join in on the fun.

Students will “Shoot for the Stars” with the stars of the City of Margate and Longport Firefighters, Police, and Teachers. The students are invited to play various games with the ‘Pro’s.’

The children score points and compete for prizes during the evening. We also have music and all food and drink is at no cost.
The members of the REBEL 2 organization and the Alliance have encouraged this evening to be a community wide event. We are attempting to demonstrate to our youth that they have choices other than experimenting with tobacco, alcohol and drugs to have a great time. These students want to show their peers that it takes planning to make other choices, but it certainly can be more fun. The adult participation given that evening supports this effort.

The only entrance requirement from the students is that they sign a pledge stating that they will avoid harmful substances to themselves and support their friends in the same effort.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me during the school day.

~Thank you, Mrs. Repetto.
