Students attend Library Class on a weekly basis at the Ross School. All sorts of curricular activities and projects are presented during this special time.
Our third graders keep busy learning about the specific parts of the book, literature genres, and how to critically use the Internet as a resource. This is also a good time for students to hear a read aloud. Selections are linked to a timely topic and students are assessed by the Accelerated Reading Quiz program.
Fourth graders work on learning reading comprehension
skills and the mechanics of the Writing Process. Fifth graders experience
hands on library skills that are designed to help with research based activities.
Example lessons include learning how to use the online library database,
the dictionary, the almanac, the atlas, and analyzing information from charts,
tables, and graphs.
Library Class is not the only time students are welcome
to the Ross Media Center. The library is open all day for walk-ins,
research, reading, and AR quiz taking. Students are encouraged to
check out up to two books for two weeks. Renewals are free and there
are no overdue fines collected.
